Cubs still in command of NL Central

The Chicago Cubs (14-5, 1st place NL Central) rebounded from a 14-5 thrashing at  the hands of the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday with a 5-0 shutout Sunday before jetting out of town and back home.

The Cubs will now host the Milwaukee Brewers (8-11, 5th place NL Central) for a three game stand followed up with a series against the Atlanta Braves.  The extended home games will give the team an opportunity to feel out their new clubhouse, a 30, 000 foot palace, which they have not had much time to enjoy.

“It’s like we’ve never been there,” Cubs manager Joe Maddon said about playing at Wrigley Field. “It’s like we saw the clubhouse briefly, and we left. You combine Spring Training and one week at home, it’s been a long time.”

Starting tonight’s game for the Cubs will be Kyle Hendrix (4-1, 1.45 ERA) and Jimmy Nelson (0-3, 3.60 ERA) for the Brewers.  Also, expect Dexter Fowler, who had a couple days off,  back in the lineup tonight.

“Dexter is playing so well.” Madden said.  “I did not want to run him into the ground.

Plenty of great seats and affordable tickets are still available so get out and enjoy the weather, the Cubs and the return of Major League Baseball!

Cubs ready for end of Spring Training

The Chicago Cubs manager Joe Madden is ready to get to the regular season which also means cuts to a squad that has given it’s all thus far.  The Cubs have a target on their back this season where they are predicted to finish at the top of the league elites.

“We have a really good team, and I think we have the right guy leading us and the right pieces that we added to complement our team last year,” said 3rd baseman Kris Bryant, last year’s NL Rookie of the Year. “It’s going to be a whole lot of fun this year. I’m excited about what we can do. Everyone on this team feels that way.

“There is a target on our back now;” manager Joe Madden said. “People think we’re the team to beat. It’s like I told our guys on the first day of spring — embrace the target. Be glad that we have the kind of team that people expect big things from.”

The Cubs will resume Spring Training with games against the Reds, Rangers and Giants coming up next.  Plenty of great seats and affordable tickets are still available so be sure to get yours today and be a part of the action!
