The lack of a bullpen doomed the Chicago Cubs from the start of this series but the Mets hitting is what dominated this series to propel New York into the World Series. The Mets outscored the Cubs 21-8, knocked in three more home runs and had an amazing .833 OPS to the Cubs .522.
The Mets were led by Daniel Murphy who htan amazing record six straight home runs in six consecutive games, setting an MLB record. Murphy is the first player in major league history to produce at least eight hits and four homers in a postseason series that was four or fewer games in length.
“I can’t even explain Murphy,” Mets hitting coach Kevin Long said. “Murphy is on a different planet right now. He really is. The last at-bat, he’s looking for a changeup, and he hits a 97-mph fastball out. That’s where he’s at right now. It’s mind-boggling. It really is.”
The Mets now await the winners of the Kansas City Royals and the Toronto Blue Jays. Now is the time to get your tickets and make sure you cheer on your New York Mets in the World Series
